Summary and Analysis Based on Reports From VOA Recent studies of the history of water on Mars indicate that the planet has a much wetter past than previously though. On October 8,the latest study reported in the journal Science describes ancient deltas and lakes which dominated the Mars more than 3 billion years ago.The image data sent by curiosity, the probe working on Mars since 2012,provides the capability to test the hypothesis about Mars’ past climate. These deciphered data could illustrate that the piles of layered rock in Gale Crater(a crater on Mars where the Curiosity work)is formed by deposits of sediment, laid down over eons. These confirm the evidence that there were a combination of moving and standing water on Mars in the past.
